Building a Sustainable Future

Curaçao to be(come) the (regional) leader in the production and export of green energy.

Curaçao’s mission is to optimally deploy the resources of Curaçao in partnership with strategic alliances to gain and maintain a competitive edge in and through the production, and export of hydrogen and other green carriers.

Curaçao has three Wind Farms which are situated at Playa Kanoa and Tera Kora (1 & 2). Together, the wind parks give Curaçao a total installed wind-generating capacity of 12 megawatts.

Curaçao boasts an exceptional wind profile and deep waters just off its coast, and is located outside the hurricane region. Furthermore, Curaçao’s territorial waters are perfectly equipped for large-scale deployment of floating off-shore wind farms. Therefore they are able to produce electricity nearby through Green H2, in such volumes that they can significantly reduce the cost of living of their inhabitants and become a serious player in the H2 production and export market.

Since 2018, Curaçao's energy policy has prioritized sustainability through various strategies, including the introduction of natural gas for energy purposes, investment in waste-to-energy initiatives, and promoting energy-efficient transportation and buildings.

Curaçao’s Path to Sustainable Energy

The Government of Curaçao strives for a sustainable energy system that contributes to making Curaçao the preferred country in the region for industry, trade and tourism. To this day, the energy, water and mobility infrastructure are among the best in the Caribbean.

Curaçao aims to increase its renewable energy share from 40% to 50% by 2035, with a focus on wind farms and solar energy production. As of 2018, there were 47 MW of wind and 18 MW of solar energy capacity. The goal is to reach 65 MW of wind and 55 MW of solar by 2028.
