Miles Mercera appointed as the new CEO for CINEX

Willemstad, Curaçao – The Supervisory Board of Curaçao Investment & Export Promotion Agency is pleased to announce the appointment of Miles B. M. Mercera, MSc. as the new Chief Executive Officer. Mercera has officially joined the team January 1st , 2025, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a fresh vision for the future of CINEX.

Minister of Economic Development, Mr. Charles Cooper expressed his support for Mercera’s appointment, emphasizing the important role CINEX can play in the economic development of Curaçao. “CINEX is a vital instrument in our strategy to diversify and strengthen our economy. I am confident that with Mr. Mercera at the helm, we will see significant advancements in our economic sectors. His expertise and leadership will be invaluable as we work together to achieve our goals”.

The Supervisory Board of CINEX highlighted the rigorous selection process by Deloitte, which was overseen by SBTNO. “The approval and appointment of Miles Mercera as the new CEO of CINEX followed a thorough and diligent process. We are excited about the future and the innovative ideas he brings to the table. Under his leadership, we look forward to continuing the mission of positioning CINEX as a forward-thinking organization committed to driving sustainable economic growth”.

Miles Mercera, the incoming CEO, shared his enthusiasm for the new challenge. “I am incredibly excited to join CINEX and to contribute back to the economic development of Curaçao. This opportunity allows me to continue my professional growth, and I am grateful for the trust placed in me by the government of Curaçao. My focus will be on enhancing CINEX as a respected, future-oriented organization, and investing in new and existing economic sectors such as the digital economy, AI, creative economy, renewable energy, sustainable tourism, and Agriculture. Additionally, we will continue to support the island’s National Export Strategy in collaboration with the Ministry of Economic Development”.

The Supervisory Board of CINEX would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Jeanette Bonet for her exceptional leadership and dedication as the interim CEO for the past two and a half years. Bonet has played a vital role in shaping the organization’s vision, driving key policies, and ensuring our competitive edge. Her efforts in attracting international investors, stimulating exports, and creating jobs have significantly impacted Curaçao’s economic landscape. Bonet’s remarkable contributions have left lasting impact, and we wish her all the best in her future endeavors. During the coming month, Bonet will work with the team to ensure a smooth handover.

Miles Mercera brings a rich background to his new role. Born in the Netherlands and raised on the ABC islands, he holds an associate degree in Hotel Management from the Aruba Hotel School, a bachelor’s degree in International Hospitality & Tourism Management from the University of Curaçao, and a master’s degree in Consultancy & Entrepreneurship from the Rotterdam Business School. His career began at Starwood Hotels & Resorts in Holland, where he worked in Online Marketing & Social Media Marketing. Mercera has held significant roles in the Dutch Caribbean tourism sector, including his tenure as President & CEO of the Curaçao Hospitality & Tourism Association and recently, CEO of the Tourism Corporation Bonaire, where he has driven substantial growth and development in Bonair’s tourism industry. Moreover, Mercera is actively engaged in projects to benefit the community and is fluent in Dutch, Papiamento, English, and Spanish.
